Veneers

Veneers

Veneers are thin shells, normally made from porcelain or composite, which are fixed neatly to the front surface of a tooth to hide all kinds of defects and improve its colour, shape or alignment.

As only a small layer of natural tooth (if any) needs to be removed prior to fitting, veneers offer a minimally invasive solution to unsightly or awkwardly positioned teeth.

The advantages

  • Natural-looking
  • Long-lasting
  • Stain resistant
  • More of the natural tooth can be kept intact

The treatment process

If necessary, a thin layer of enamel is removed from the tooth so the veneer will fit comfortably.
Impressions are then taken so the veneer can be produced specifically for you. It will also be colour-matched to blend in perfectly.
When ready, the veneer is bonded securely to your tooth.

More about veneers

Good dental hygiene is essential following the fitting of a veneer so the underlying tooth and surrounding teeth remain healthy. You also need to attend regular check-ups with your dentist so they can ensure all remains well with your restoration.

Although designed to last, you do need to be a little careful with veneers as they can chip or break just like real teeth. Try to avoid biting your fingernails and opening things with your teeth.
